# Read Charlotte Listening Comprehension Resource Center

> A free, research-based professional learning hub for educators — providing strategies, materials, assessments, and a structured knowledge base to build students' listening comprehension skills from Pre-K through 12th grade. An initiative of Read Charlotte, a civic program of Foundation For The Carolinas.

The Listening Comprehension Resource Center is built on the premise that strong listening comprehension skills during and beyond the early elementary grades directly support students' reading comprehension ability. The site serves teachers, literacy coaches, and instructional leaders who want to understand, teach, and assess listening comprehension using evidence-based practices.

Listening comprehension is comprised of higher-level language skills (inference, perspective-taking, reasoning, comprehension monitoring, and text structure knowledge) and lower-level language skills (vocabulary and grammatical/syntactic knowledge). Resources on this site target all of these component skills.

## About Read Charlotte

Read Charlotte is a community literacy initiative that unites educators, community partners, and families to improve children's reading from birth through elementary school. Read Charlotte is a capacity-building intermediary — it does not run programs directly but supports local partners in applying evidence-based knowledge about effective reading instruction and interventions, continuous improvement, and data analysis to improve reading outcomes. Read Charlotte is a civic initiative of Foundation For The Carolinas.
