The Qualitative Reading Inventory (Seventh Edition) (QRI-7) assesses students’ literacy skills through graded word lists, leveled-passages, and explicit and implicit questions following oral and silent reading.
In this activity students will categorize words based on their meaning. To modify this activity the teacher can create the categories along with the vocabulary words.

STARI is a literacy intervention designed to support adolescent struggling readers through high-interest and engaging texts, topics, and conversation that teach essential literacy skills such as decoding, fluency and comprehension strategies.
During this activity, students brainstorm what they know about a given topic. After engaging with text, they revisit their brainstorm and identify words, ideas, etc. that were used in the text.
