The Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum builds students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through an integrated literacy approach.

Students engage with scaffolded, open-ended questions that prompt them to think deeply about a text they have heard.

This activity engages students in evaluating authors’ purpose. Students sort passages into three categories of author’s purpose: persuade, inform, and entertain.
